True or False?
‘Laugh and the world laughs with you. Weep and you weep alone.’ Quote from poem ‘Solitude’ by Ella Wheeler Wilcox-Published 1883
If true; the message is tragic. Andy Griffith Show viewers laughed at Don Knotts ‘Barney Fife’ character. Did Knotts weep alone during his childhood?
His father (a Schizophrenic Alcoholic) was known to terrorize his son by holding a knife to his throat.* How could any child overcome such threats? Don Knots made people laugh. God transformed tragedy into triumph. It’s easy for us to laugh along with others; to rejoice when they rejoice. Weeping requires empathy. How often I fall short… The LORD never intended that a man, woman or child weep alone.
“Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep (Romans 12:15 NASB).”
God cares. Do we?
“He heals the brokenhearted
And binds up their wounds (Psalm 147:3 NASB).”
He will one day wipe away all tears of the brokenhearted….
“and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away (Revelation 21:4 NASB).”
No more tears; rejoice!
