Life can be filled with all kinds of surprises – some good, some not so good. And the surprises can be life altering in both good and bad. The timing is unexpected, and the circumstances can be delightfully welcome, or devastating.  How do we handle both good and bad?  – there is only one correct answer for that – there is no “multiple choice” responses – the only answer is “God.”

There are times when I feel too numb to “feel anything” and begin to wonder if I’ve somehow lost my sense of ability to react to emotions – good or otherwise. But that is a component of life that many will encounter. It’s the invariable ups and downs and all arounds of LIFE.

But during all of these moments, and sensations or lack thereof – the only One that gets me through the cycle of life – is LIFE itself – which is to say my LORD and Savior.

  • Times are unsettled. Our LORD is anything but – He is constant.
  • Times can be chaotic. Our LORD is anything but- He is Peace.
  • Times can be scary. Our LORD is anything but – He is soothing.
  • Times can be painful. Our LORD is anything but – He is painless.

It’s okay to feel three dimensional – or one dimensional, after all we are humans. Within our flesh bodies come cascades of varying degrees of emotions and events that we react to.  But it’s so much better with a person of faith than those who have no baseline or hope or trust or love or God. I’ve seen both sides of the coin, especially in my past career working in the nursing home industry.  First, as the social worker, then as the Administrator of our nursing home. And I’ve seen all sides of humans, behavior and otherwise. The good sides. The bad sides. The beautiful sides. And the ugly sides. And I tell you this with full certainty – those with faith were able to withstand all sides of life including those surprises, both good and bad.

For those who didn’t believe, well they languished in an abysmal vortex of nothingness. They were seemingly waiting for “nothing” and didn’t care about “anything.” All hope gone, perishing and clinging to a vapor and mist of existence.

I write this not to depress my readers, but to bring comfort and uplift those of faith to even greater heights if possible.  And to those readers who are here for the first time, perhaps to elevate their circumstances and let them wonder what “Christ is all about.” Perhaps to pick up a Bible and read. Or to reach out to someone and ask questions about life with God in it.  A friend, a pastor, a teacher – a neighbor – anyone who follows the LORD and knows Him intimately can bring about a current of understanding and knowledge of how GREAT He is!

LIFE is a moving phenomenon.  It keeps going irrespective of our circumstances, and it revolves around a 24-hour cycle. –  Within those hours we can be devoted to a God that loves us more than we could ever possibly begin to fathom or imagine. And trust Him to guide us. And love Him because of who He is and what He does and continues to do for us, 24/7, non-stop.

Are you a follower? Have you reached out to Him today no matter what you are going through? Of course, He sees and knows, you and your heart – but He wants to hear it from you directly.

Go to Him – it really makes Life – LIFE!

DEAR GOD: There Is Always Hope Hope Anchored in Your Word

Hope in God the Father – Word, Life, Light

You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in Your word.” —Psalm 119:114 (NKJV)

In seasons of depletion, confusion, or grief, hope can feel like a distant echo. But Psalm 119:114 reminds us that hope is not a feeling—it’s a placement. When we place our hope in God’s Word, we are not leaning on emotion or circumstance. We are anchoring ourselves in something eternal, unshakable, and alive.

The psalmist calls God both a hiding place and a shield—a refuge from inner storms and a protector from outer battles. This dual image speaks to the fullness of divine care: God shelters our vulnerability and defends our dignity. When we feel exposed, overwhelmed, or spiritually threadbare, His Word becomes the covering that restores peace.

This verse is echoed in Hebrews 6:19 (NKJV):

“This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast…”Hope in God’s promises doesn’t drift—it holds. It steadies us when everything else feels unstable.

Reflective Question

Where have you been placing your hope lately—and is it anchoring you or exhausting you?

 “LORD -be our hiding place when the world feels too loud. Shield our hearts from fear and anchor our souls in Your Word. Let hope rise again—not from circumstances, but from Your unchanging truth.  In Jesus name, Amen.”

DEAR GOD: You Are Our Eternal Anchoring in a Fading World~

Isaiah 40:8 (ESV) “The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.”

In Isaiah 40:8, the prophet offers a striking contrast between the fleeting nature of earthly beauty and the enduring truth of God’s Word. Grass and flowers—symbols of vitality and splendor—are subject to time, decay, and change. Yet, in the midst of this transience, Isaiah declares a profound truth: God’s Word is eternal, unchanging, and steadfast.

This verse is nestled within a chapter that speaks comfort to a weary people. Israel, exiled and burdened, needed reassurance that despite their circumstances, God’s promises remained firm. Isaiah reminds them—and us—that while human strength, beauty, and even institutions may falter, the Word of God is a foundation that cannot be shaken.

In today’s world, where trends shift rapidly and truth is often treated as subjective, Isaiah 40:8 calls us to anchor ourselves in something eternal. Social media, news cycles, and cultural movements can feel like wild winds blowing through the grass. But Scripture offers a stillness, a rootedness. It speaks of love that never fails, justice that rolls like a river, and grace that renews each morning.

For caregivers, artists, advocates, and seekers of truths- this verse affirms that our efforts—when aligned with God’s Word—carry eternal weight. Whether preparing meals, writing devotionals, fully engaged in caregiving, taking care of a household with children and aging parents, or mapping sanctuaries, or whatever your circumstances or situation may be-the Word infuses each act with purpose beyond the moment. It’s not the fading flower of recognition we seek, but the enduring bloom of spiritual resonance.

Reflectively, Isaiah 40:8 invites us to ask: What am I building my life upon? Am I chasing the wind, or planting seeds in eternal soil? It’s a call to return to Scripture not just for knowledge, but for anchoring, for peace, for clarity in the storm. And embracing the love of the One that loves us more than anyone or anybody on this earth possibly can.

“LORD -in a world that withers and fades, anchor me in Your Word. Let Your truth be my compass, Your promises my shelter. Teach me to see beyond the fleeting and to invest in the eternal. May my life reflect Your enduring love, and may I find peace in Your unchanging Presence. In Jesus name, Amen.”

DEAR GOD: I Lift My Eyes To You – Where My Help Comes~

Psalm 121 (KJV) – I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help!

 

When we take time to really absorb that verse from Psalm 121 and truly digest the meaning – we will begin to form a deeper connection and growth in the LORD.  This verse has always been a favorite of mine, but never more significant than the last several months in my life. So many things have transpired in a seemingly endless loop of events – that surrounded family, friends, and acquaintances – and in the world itself- that made me stop and think about that verse in a more profound fashion.

Knowing that our LORD is there seeing all, hearing all, and also “feeling” alongside you the pain, anguish, and the joy and triumphant celebrations – brings an immediate sense of relief and comfort that embraces the soul warmly and distinctly.

Being a follower and a Christian is a pathway that others who don’t have a relationship with God can’t begin to understand. They may sense it, or see it on those who have intimate relationships with the LORD, but alas, they can’t experience it first hand like those of us who do.

It can be tough staying on a path which leads to God at times.  But the resilience and the fortitude needed are given to us readily through His Spirit, and His guidance and His strength to endure and press forward and onward, to finishing this race He has set us on.

I cannot fully begin to understand how others who don’t know Him can even “exist” in this world of chaos and evil in epic proportions.  We have the ability to withstand forces that come against us in the spiritual realm, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, who has given us authority to do so.  It is through Him and Him alone that we can shake off the evil grip of the enemy, and sashay into His light and love.  We have confidence that we are able to fine tune the “static” of the evil one…seemingly effortless with Christ. Amen!

Today as you go forward – bow down and give extra special thanks and praise to the only ONE worthy and the only ONE capable of such magnificence, both big and small. To the One who gave it all for US!  

For those who are reading this and haven’t fully accepted the LORD as Savior – or want to know Him further, I pray that you will delve into the Word, and accept Him as your Lord and Savior- and then you will begin to see and feel what those of us who have been born of the Spirit are all about.  And then you too will begin to reap the rewards and benefits of being a part of His family – a big royal and united family- of the One who will never leave us or forsake us.

“Father, LORD – thank You for being faithful to us, and for caring so much You gave Your life for us so that we may live forever, we look to You for all things, and to You we surrender All things, in Jesus’ name, Amen.”

Isaiah 41:10 (KJV) “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”

DEAR GOD: Help Us In Our Holding Positions In This Lifetime~

JESUS GOES BEFORE US – AIMING FOR JESUS

John 14:3 – “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself…”

Were you ever in a “holding position?”  I mean to say waiting for an event to transpire or- waiting for troubles to disappear?  That could encompass many areas in your life. Things such as marriage troubles, financial distress, family issues crumbling, health woes, grief, and just feeling “out of sorts and anxiously waiting for improvement.”

These can all be referred to as “holding periods or holding positions” in our lives.  The thing is as it states in 1 Corinthians 10:13-I will attempt to paraphrase the meaning of that particular scripture. – “What’s happening in your life right now is not uncommon to others, whether it’s temptations or difficulties – Others have gone through it and others are struggling with it right now.  But the important matter of this message is- God will never bring you to something you can’t handle, and He will bring you through it, plus show you a way out of whatever is troubling you.” 

When we realize that we are not alone and have the faith of a mustard seed (Matthew 17:20) there isn’t anything we can’t do or accomplish – but only through Jesus Christ.

  • He is the anchor in our storm. 
  • He is the balm for the pain in our hearts. 
  • He is the peace through the chaotic avenues of life.
  • He is the love that binds to our souls. 
  • He is the Master of the Universe and the satiety center in our brains. 
  • He is the only ONE that is capable of ALL things.
  • And nothing is impossible with God.

Whoever needs to hear this today – please know what is happening in your life is temporary. And that there is a solution. It may not be today, or tomorrow or the day after that – but there is a solution. God knows your pain, and He will guide you through it – and He is with you always. He never leaves your side. (Matthew 28:20)

Sometimes the solution isn’t what we expected. Prayers not answered, may be answered in another way. A way in which God deems is necessary and part of His plan and will in our lives. Through our pain, suffering and grief and anxiety – We need Him more than ever. Our physical stamina may be lacking – but our spiritual strength is fortified by His Spirit and His love. 

It’s okay to be “angry” or “questioning” that is the human side of Christians – but it’s times like that we need to gird ourselves with the Word and His truth. It’s these times that we stand on the Rock and grip the foundation of His awesome power and promises. That’s when our spiritual growth intensifies.  That is when we become more mature in the Word and His love.  That’s when we move up the rank in the army of Christ. 

Please trust in God. Open His book of love written for us – the Holy Bible – and delve into it. Learn it. Obey it. And have faith in the fact that He goes before us in all we do. As he has said so many times in the Bible – “Be of good courage and have no fear…”

Key Instances Where God Reassures us:

  • Joshua 1:6–9 – God tells Joshua three times to “be strong and of good courage” as he prepares to lead Israel into the Promised Land. Verse 9 adds: “Do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you.”
  • Deuteronomy 31:6–8 – Moses encourages Joshua and the Israelites: “Be strong and of good courage… do not fear nor be afraid of them.” God repeats this directly to Joshua.
  • Psalm 27:14 – “Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart.” Though “fear not” isn’t explicit here, the context is one of trusting God amid danger.
  • Mark 6:50 – Jesus tells His disciples, frightened by His walking on water: “Be of good cheer: it is I; be not afraid.” This echoes the same divine reassurance.
  • Luke 1:30 – Angel Gabriel tells Mary: “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.” While “courage” isn’t named, the sentiment is deeply aligned.
  • Genesis 21:17 – God tells Hagar not to fear when she’s in the wilderness with her son Ishmael.
  • Deuteronomy 31:8 -“It is the LORD who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.”

Please try to grasp the enormity of the situation – we have a GOD who is watching over us. Even if we are lost in a moment of despair. Or days of anguish. He is with us.

The hands of time are moving. Although at times it may seem the sands of time stand still during a crisis in life – which can be overwhelming and seemingly endless!  He is with you, with me, with us. 

His promises are like dewdrops on the most beautiful delicate petals of a gorgeous rose. Like a rose as it glistens – He is there resting upon us, gently, refreshing us, and glimmering in our heart and soul.

I pray for peace to those reading this. That the peace of Jesus Christ rest with you all. And I pray for those to really engage Him daily in prayer, scripture and practice. 

A life with CHRIST is so much easier to handle and navigate the hairpin curves on the road in our lives, than to try and steer the wheel without Him.  

A life with Christ is a LIFE worth living.  Without Him – there is NO life.

“LORD, Father God, I just ask that those reading this will realize the extent of Your love and sacrifice, that whatever is troubling them at this moment in time, that You will guide them to a resolution, and that their hearts, will be comforted by Your love and Your promises, and may Your light shine upon them today and always, in Jesus, name, Amen.”

🌿 Devotional Commentary

In a world that rushes, demands, and forgets, this verse is a whisper of divine steadiness. “He restoreth my soul”—not just repairs but restores. The Hebrew root implies bringing back to original beauty, to wholeness. It’s not a patch job. It’s a sacred revival.

In our daily activities of life, such as our caregiving, our portioning routines, our spiritual stewardship, we can pour out so much. And yet here is the promise: He restores. Not because we’ve earned it. Not because the world finally noticed. But “for His name’s sake”—because it is His nature to love, to guide, to gently lead.

The paths of righteousness aren’t paved with perfection. They’re often quiet, winding, and hidden from the world’s applause. But they are sacred. And He leads you there—not pushes, not rushes—but leads. Like a shepherd who knows our pace, our heart, our need for stillness.

This morning, as you seek clarity in your routines, peace in your transitions, and dignity in your work, let this verse be your anchor. You are not forgotten. You are being led.

💧 The Tears of God: Compassion in Its Purest Form

Two words. One eternal truth. “Jesus wept.” In this moment, the Son of God—who holds power over death—stood beside grieving friends and let His tears fall. Not because He lacked strength, but because He possessed perfect love. Jesus knew He would raise Lazarus, yet He chose to enter the sorrow of others. His tears were not weakness—they were divine empathy.

This is the heart of our Savior: not distant, not indifferent, but deeply moved by human pain. He weeps with us. He walks with us. He understands our grief, our confusion, our longing. And in His compassion, He shows us how to live.

To follow Jesus is to carry this same heart. A heart that pauses for others. That listens. That weeps. That lifts. Whether in joy or sorrow, we are called to reflect His love—not just in words, but in presence. In every act of kindness, every moment of understanding, we echo the tears of Christ.

Loving the LORD in Today’s Times and Always

In Nehemiah’s day, the people had just rediscovered the law of God after years of exile and spiritual drought. Their hearts were pierced with conviction, yet the prophet reminded them that sorrow was not the final word—joy in the LORD was their refuge and renewal.

Today, in a world of shifting values, noise, and uncertainty, this truth remains unshaken. Joy in the LORD is not fleeting happiness or circumstantial ease—it is a deep, abiding gladness anchored in His presence, promises, and peace. To love the LORD in modern times is to choose sacred stillness over chaos, truth over trends, and grace over grievance. It is to delight in Him not just when life is gentle, but especially when it is not.

Loving the LORD always means remembering that He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. His joy is not a luxury—it is our lifeline. It strengthens us to endure, to forgive, to hope, and to worship even when the world feels heavy.

Reflective Meditation  

O my soul, rejoice in thy Maker. Though the earth be troubled and the nations roar, The LORD is thy portion and thy praise. He hath clothed thee with gladness and girded thee with peace. Let not thy heart be cast down, for the joy of the LORD is thy strength. Lift up thine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh thy help. Thy help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth. In His presence is fullness of joy; at His right hand are pleasures forevermore. Rest in Him, delight in Him, and be glad in thy God.

A Woman of the Word, A Light to the World

Jennifer Woodley was more than a wife, mother, grandmother, chaplain, daughter, sibling, and friend—she was a Godly woman, radiant with the love of the Lord. Her life was a living testimony to the power of scripture, not merely studied but embodied in every breath, every word, every act of compassion.

Across oceans and time zones, her presence was felt—warm, wise, and unwavering. She was a spiritual mentor whose encouragement reached far beyond her physical reach. Her charm, wit, grace, and vibrance were unmistakable, yet it was her gentle strength and deep faith that made her unforgettable.

📖 A Heart Anchored in the Word

Jennifer’s love for God was the heartbeat of her life. She delighted in the Word—not just reading it, but diving deep, mining its truths, and allowing it to shape her every thought and action. Scripture was her compass, her comfort, and her joy. She often said that the Bible was not just a book—it was her lifeline, her daily bread, her source of wisdom and peace.

She didn’t keep this treasure to herself. As a school chaplain, Jennifer poured out her love for God into the hearts of children. She taught them not only Bible stories, but how to walk with Jesus, how to pray, how to listen for His voice. Her classroom was a sanctuary, her presence a reflection of Christ’s gentleness and joy. Children gravitated toward her because they sensed something holy, something safe, something real.

🤝 A Life of Fellowship and Humility

Jennifer loved fellowshipping about God every chance she got. Whether in church, over tea, or through messages across the ocean, she was always ready to speak of His goodness. Her conversations were rich with scripture, layered with grace, and filled with encouragement. She never sought attention or accolades—she simply wanted to glorify the Lord and uplift others.

Her humility was striking. Though she was wise, articulate, and spiritually mature, she carried herself with a pristine gentleness. She never boasted, never demanded, never judged. She lived with quiet dignity, always pointing others to Jesus rather than herself. Her life was a sermon—unspoken but unmistakable.

🌈 A Crown Well Earned

Even as she faced medical challenges, Jennifer never complained. She bore her suffering with grace, always giving glory to God.

She clung to the promise of Romans 8:18: –“I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.”

And she lived by the hope of 2 Corinthians 4:17: –“For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.”

Now, Jennifer has received her crown of righteousness, as promised in 2 Timothy 4:7–8: “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness…”

🙏 A Prayer of Thanks

“LORD, we thank You for the life of Jennifer Woodley—a woman whose heart- beat in rhythm with Yours. Thank You for the wisdom she shared, the comfort she gave, and the light she carried. We are grateful for her friendship, her mentorship, and her unwavering faith.

Thank You for the children she nurtured, the friends she encouraged, and the Word she lived so beautifully. May her legacy continue to inspire us to live boldly for You. May her crown shine as a testimony to a race well run. And may we, one day, rejoice with her in eternal glory.

Until we meet again, dear Jennifer—rest in the arms of the Savior you loved so deeply. You are missed, cherished, and celebrated, always.

Enjoy the feast with the Lamb – you earned your crown my dear friend – and humble servant of the LORD.

Jennifer, I know you are in the Presence of the One you loved so deeply, reaping the eternal rewards of a life well lived. I am happy and celebrate you going home in glory, but I miss you already.
I will miss our weekly emails that made me laugh and smile so wide. I will miss your wisdom and unparalleled wisdom in the LORD and scripture.
I will miss your encouragement, your compassion and your valued input and insight. Sunday’s will never quite be the same without your email from Australia sitting in my mailbox. But I am so grateful that God gave me such a gift as your friendship for 15 years. I was blessed and honored to have known you. Losing a loved one is hard, and losing such a close friend hurts to the core, but brings me joy, again knowing where you are, and out of pain and in peace. Thank you for being my friend, colleague, and spiritual sister. You were the best of the best.

DEAR GOD: We Are Sheltered In Your Strength & Love~

God's Presence - The Witness

 

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” —
Psalm 46:1 (ESV)

🌄 Reflection:

Before the world stirs, before the demands of the day rise up, we pause and remember: God is our refuge. Not a distant fortress, but a near and loving shelter. Not just strength for the strong, but strength for the weary, the uncertain, the burdened.

Psalm 46:1 doesn’t promise a trouble-free life—it promises a God who is very present in the midst of it. That “very” is no accident. It’s the heartbeat of Divine nearness. Whether we face quiet anxieties or loud disruptions, He is not just aware—He is active, attentive, and able.

So, this morning, and all throughout the day and night – we don’t need to brace ourselves alone. We lean into the refuge. We draw from His strength. We walk forward not in fear, but in faith.

We know that He is with us through it all. The circumstances in life may be brimming with heartache, pain and odds that seem hopeless – but with God – all things are possible, and He is the Master of the Universe and in control of ALL.

Trust Him and lean into Him – and know that He is working at the helm, 24 hours a day and ultimately – He wants what is best for us – His children.

Isn’t that a comfort knowing He is with us always?

LORD thank You for being our refuge. Thank You for being near—not just in theory, but in truth. When trouble stirs, let us run to You first. When strength fails, let us draw from Yours. Be our peace, our protector, and our provider today. We trust You with every moment, and we welcome Your Presence into every space. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
