DEAR GOD: I Have Confidence in You and Your Divine Discipline

“I have confidence in the Lord that you will take no other view, and the one who is troubling you will bear the penalty, whoever he is.” – Galatians 5:10 (ESV) –

Context and Background:

The Apostle Paul wrote the letter to the Galatians to address a serious issue: false teachers were infiltrating the church, promoting legalism, and undermining the gospel of grace. These Judaizers insisted that Gentile believers must follow Jewish customs and laws to be truly saved. Paul’s response was passionate and urgent, emphasizing salvation by faith in Christ alone.

Confidence in the Lord:

Paul begins with a bold statement: “I have confidence in the Lord.” His trust is not in human abilities but in God’s work within the Galatian believers.

As Christians, we can also have confidence in God’s faithfulness. He who began a good work in us will carry it to completion (Philippians 1:6).

Unity and Sound Doctrine:

Paul expects the Galatians to remain steadfast in their faith and not be swayed by false teachings.

We, too, should hold fast to sound doctrine and avoid being led astray by deceptive ideas or worldly philosophies.

Divine Discipline:

The phrase “the one who is troubling you” refers to those promoting legalism and undermining grace.

God’s discipline is not necessarily punitive but corrective. False teachers will face consequences for their actions.

A Moral Story: “The Gardener’s Pruning”:

Once, in a beautiful garden, a skilled gardener tended to a young fruit tree. The tree grew lush and green, but its branches tangled and twisted. The gardener knew that without pruning, the tree would bear little fruit.

One day, the gardener approached the tree with shears in hand. The tree trembled, fearing the pain of the cut. But the gardener spoke gently, “Trust me, little tree. This pruning is for your good.”

As the shears snipped away dead branches and unruly growth, the tree winced. Yet, with each cut, it felt lighter, freer. The gardener whispered, “I am shaping you for abundance.”

In time, the tree blossomed. Its branches stretched toward the sun, laden with sweet fruit. The gardener smiled, knowing that the pruning had borne fruitfulness.

Such is our lives today. At times we need the “Master’s” hands to shape us and prune us of issues and circumstances that might be inhibiting our growth in Him which-ultimately- may be rotting our roots in Christianity. So at times our growth may be “painful” but in the overall picture and aftermath, it will be worth it as we develop higher into the realm of our faith and love for the LORD!

How Can We Apply This Today:

Unity: Let us stand united in the gospel of grace, rejecting legalism and embracing Christ’s finished work.
Discernment: May we discern false teachings and hold fast to sound doctrine.
Trust: Like the pruned tree, trust God’s loving discipline—even when it hurts—knowing it leads to abundant life.

Unified Prayer:

“My Dear Lord, grant us unwavering faith and confidence in You. Help us discern truth from error, and may we remain anchored in Your Word. Strengthen us to resist troubling influences and uphold sound doctrine. Help us in the growth of our spirituality, help us to get closer to You in all we do and say, all the days of our lives. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

“May this encourage us to walk confidently in the LORD’s truth, and offer us encouragement in a dark world, as we follow His Light, and embrace His love, while we love Him in return!”

The Blessings of Unity – In God's Image

Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus, –
Romans 15:5

The verse from Romans 15:5 encapsulates a powerful message of unity, patience, and encouragement within the Christian community. Let explore and get more into its meaning, implications, and the daily aspirations we can derive from being in the Word, aligning with the Word. And following the LORD in all we do, act and say.

The God of Patience and Consolation

The verse begins by invoking the “God of patience and consolation.” This Godly and most divine attribute emphasizes endurance and comfort. God’s patience sustains us during all of our trials, while His consolation provides comfort and solace. As believers, we are called to emulate these qualities, and incorporate them continuously during our interactions with others, and represent Christ in all we do.

Being Like-Minded

The prayer continues, urging believers to be “likeminded.” This doesn’t imply uniformity of thought but rather unity of purpose. We should share common goals, values, and aspirations, centered around Christ Jesus. Everything we are involved in should have Christ smack in the center of it. No matter what it is we are doing, Christ should be with us doing it too!

A good rule is to remember this – Would Christ approve of what you’re doing? And would Christ be happy with what you’re doing?

If the answer is NO – then don’t do it! Simple equation really.

Unity According to Christ

Our unity should align with Christ’s example. He selflessly endured suffering, exemplifying patience and consolation. When we adopt His mindset, we foster harmony within the body of believers. When we harness His love and power and ascribe to His doctrine or Gospel – we are given the opportunity by His grace to live life according to His will and purpose for each of us.

What practical steps can we take to promote unity within our local church or community?

Final Thoughts

Unity isn’t mere agreement; it’s a shared commitment to God’s purposes. As we glorify God with one mind and one mouth, and one body we honor the Father and reflect Christ’s love.

DEAR GOD: Your Presence Is Here With Me~

I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. –
John 14:18 (ESV)

Jesus speaks to His disciples during the Last Supper. He assures them that despite His impending departure, they will not be left alone. Instead, He promises to return to them. This verse encapsulates both the hope and comfort that Jesus offers to His followers.

The Greek word translated as “orphans” (or “comfortless “as stated in the KJV) conveys the idea of being bereaved, abandoned, or left desolate. Jesus assures His disciples that they won’t be left in this state. His promise extends beyond mere physical presence; it encompasses His ongoing spiritual presence through the Holy Spirit.

Supporting Scriptures

To understand the depth of Jesus’ promise, let’s consider related passages:

John 14:15-17: Jesus introduces the concept of the Holy Spirit as the Advocate (Paraclete) who will come after His departure. The Spirit will guide, comfort, and empower the disciples.

In the Gospel of Mark, we encounter a poignant tale of a poor widow who, in the act of giving two small copper coins, teaches us a profound lesson about the heart of giving. Many wealthy people threw in large amounts, but a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents.

DEAR GOD: We Are All Equal In Your Eyes~

Rahab’s Story

In the ancient walls of Jericho, there lived a woman named Rahab, whose story is told in the book of Joshua, chapters 2 and 6. Despite her implied reputation- Rahab played a pivotal role in the Israelites’ conquest of the city.

When Joshua sent two spies to assess Jericho, Rahab hid them from the king’s men, recognizing the power of their God, Yahweh. She declared, “For the Lord your God, He is God in heaven above and on earth beneath” (Joshua 2:11, NKJV).

Christ’s Love and Forgiveness

Rahab’s actions prefigure the love and forgiveness central to Christ’s message. Just as she extended protection to the spies, Christ offers salvation to all, regardless of past transgressions. Ephesians 2:4-5 says, “But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ.”

Loyalty and Morality

Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” This verse speaks to the heart of human vulnerability and the universal search for strength and companionship in the face of life’s adversities.

The call to be strong and courageous is not merely a command; it is an invitation to trust in the unwavering presence of God. The assurance that the Lord is with us, that He will not leave us nor forsake us, is the foundation upon which our courage is built. The Apostle Paul’s second letter to the Corinthians, particularly chapters 4 and 5, offers profound insights into the Christian experience of suffering and the unwavering hope in eternal glory. The Treasure in Jars of Clay

Paul begins by describing believers as having this treasure in jars of clay to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us ¹. The metaphor of jars of clay signifies our human frailty and vulnerability. The Love of Mother Mary for Christ:
A Reflection of Divine Obedience, Patience, and Attitude

The love of a mother is a profound and sacred bond, one that transcends the bounds of the earthly realm and touches the divine. In the Christian tradition, no love is more venerated than that of Mother Mary for her son, Jesus Christ. Her love is not just a maternal affection; it is a testament to unwavering obedience, boundless patience, and a gracious attitude that every follower of Christ is called to emulate.

Obedience in Love –

Mary’s journey began with an act of supreme obedience. When the angel Gabriel announced that she would conceive a son by the Holy Spirit, she responded, “I am the Lord’s servant… May your word to me be fulfilled” (Luke 1:38). This was not a passive submission, but a courageous acceptance of God’s will, knowing the challenges that lay ahead.

Patience in Suffering Throughout Christ’s life, Mary exhibited extraordinary patience. She pondered the angel’s words in her heart (Luke 2:19), patiently waiting for the unfolding of God’s plan. At the foot of the cross, her patience was the ultimate test as she witnessed her son’s crucifixion, fulfilling Simeon’s prophecy that a sword would pierce her own soul (Luke 2:35).

Attitude of Grace Mary’s attitude was one of grace and humility. She considered herself blessed among women (Luke 1:48) yet she never sought glory for herself. Her focus was always on her Son and his mission. Even at the wedding at Cana, her gentle nudge to Jesus, “They have no wine,” (John 2:3) showed her compassionate concern for others, an attitude that all followers of Christ should aspire to.

Reflecting Mary’s Love in our Lives As followers of Christ, we are called to reflect Mary’s love in our lives. Her obedience inspires us to listen to God’s voice and follow His will, even when it leads us down difficult paths. Her patience reminds us to trust in God’s timing, and her attitude teaches us to serve others with humility and grace.

The imagery of the Lord’s favor as a shield encapsulates the protective and encompassing nature of divine grace.

God will always inherently protect His children and followers; He is a constant shield and provider for all of us. He is the consummate Father that covers us with love and mercy all the days of our lives – even when we sin, he loves us – and will forgive us our transgressions if we repent and have a contrite heart.

As children of faith going about our daily lives with this knowledge in place makes for a joyous living – knowing how God is with us always and is the purveyor and Father of all blessings from above.

As you go through your daily routine and tasks -give thanks to God that He is with you always, and never will leave you. He accompanies you all the days of your life! Isn’t that totally reassuring? And isn’t that something to give thanks about.
