DEAR GOD: We Love The Transforming Power of Truth in John 1 7:17

John 17:17 — “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.” — is part of Jesus’ high priestly prayer, spoken on the eve of His crucifixion. In this verse, Christ intercedes for His disciples, asking the Father to sanctify them, to set them apart for holy purpose, through the truth of God’s Word.

The word sanctify carries the sense of consecration — being made holy, purified, and dedicated to God’s service. Jesus does not ask for His followers to be removed from the world, but rather to be strengthened and transformed within it. The means of this transformation is not human effort alone, but the living truth of God’s Word.

Truth here is not abstract philosophy, but the very essence of God’s revelation. Scripture is described as the ultimate standard of truth because it flows from the character of God Himself, who cannot lie. To be sanctified “through truth” means that the Word of God penetrates the heart, reshaping desires, correcting falsehoods, and aligning the believer’s life with divine reality.

This verse also underscores the protective power of truth. In a world filled with deception, half-truths, and shifting values, God’s Word is the anchor that keeps His people steady. Sanctification is not a one-time event but a lifelong process, where the Spirit applies the Word to the believer’s daily walk. Each act of obedience, each surrender to God’s truth, deepens holiness and strengthens witness.

Ultimately, John 17:17 reminds us that sanctification is both a gift and a calling. It is God’s work in us, yet it requires our cooperation — listening, obeying, and allowing His Word to shape us. In this way, believers are not only preserved from corruption but also empowered to shine as lights of truth in a darkened world.

Psalm 119:143 Tenderly declares:

“Trouble and anguish have taken hold on me: yet thy commandments are my delights.”

This verse is a quiet triumph—a declaration that even when sorrow grips the soul, the Word of God remains a source of joy, stability, and light. It does not deny the reality of suffering. It acknowledges it plainly: trouble and anguish have taken hold. The psalmist is not untouched by pain. But he is not undone by it either.

This is the paradox of Christian faith: that in the deepest valleys, the Word of God becomes not just a guide, but a delight. Not a distraction, but a refuge. Not a distant doctrine, but a living comfort.

In today’s world, where anxiety, loss, and uncertainty often feel relentless, this verse offers a sacred invitation. It reminds us that Scripture is not merely a book—it is a balm. It is the voice of God echoing through time, whispering truth into our chaos. When the world feels unstable, the commandments of God offer a steady rhythm. They remind us who we are, whose we are, and what is eternally true.

Christianity, at its heart, is not a religion of escape—it is a faith of presence. God does not promise to remove every storm, but He does promise to be with us in it. His Word becomes our anchor. His commandments—His ways, His truths, His promises—become our delight not because they erase pain, but because they redeem it.

To delight in God’s commandments is to say: Even here, even now, I choose to trust. I choose to remember. I choose to rejoice.

You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in Your word.” —Psalm 119:114 (NKJV)

In seasons of depletion, confusion, or grief, hope can feel like a distant echo. But Psalm 119:114 reminds us that hope is not a feeling—it’s a placement. When we place our hope in God’s Word, we are not leaning on emotion or circumstance. We are anchoring ourselves in something eternal, unshakable, and alive.

The psalmist calls God both a hiding place and a shield—a refuge from inner storms and a protector from outer battles. This dual image speaks to the fullness of divine care: God shelters our vulnerability and defends our dignity. When we feel exposed, overwhelmed, or spiritually threadbare, His Word becomes the covering that restores peace.

This verse is echoed in Hebrews 6:19 (NKJV):

“This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast…”Hope in God’s promises doesn’t drift—it holds. It steadies us when everything else feels unstable.

Isaiah 40:8 (ESV) “The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.”

In Isaiah 40:8, the prophet offers a striking contrast between the fleeting nature of earthly beauty and the enduring truth of God’s Word. Grass and flowers—symbols of vitality and splendor—are subject to time, decay, and change. Yet, in the midst of this transience, Isaiah declares a profound truth: God’s Word is eternal, unchanging, and steadfast.

This verse is nestled within a chapter that speaks comfort to a weary people. Israel, exiled and burdened, needed reassurance that despite their circumstances, God’s promises remained firm. Isaiah reminds them—and us—that while human strength, beauty, and even institutions may falter, the Word of God is a foundation that cannot be shaken.

In today’s world, where trends shift rapidly and truth is often treated as subjective, Isaiah 40:8 calls us to anchor ourselves in something eternal. For caregivers, artists, advocates, and seekers of truths- this verse affirms that our efforts—when aligned with God’s Word—carry eternal weight. Whether preparing meals, writing devotionals, fully engaged in caregiving, taking care of a household with children and aging parents, or mapping sanctuaries, or whatever your circumstances or situation may be-the Word infuses each act with purpose beyond the moment. It’s not the fading flower of recognition we seek, but the enduring bloom of spiritual resonance.

Reflectively, Isaiah 40:8 invites us to ask: What am I building my life upon? Am I chasing the wind, or planting seeds in eternal soil? It’s a call to return to Scripture not just for knowledge, but for anchoring, for peace, for clarity in the storm. And embracing the love of the One that loves us more than anyone or anybody on this earth possibly can.

“LORD -in a world that withers and fades, anchor me in Your Word. Let Your truth be my compass, Your promises my shelter. Teach me to see beyond the fleeting and to invest in the eternal. May my life reflect Your enduring love, and may I find peace in Your unchanging Presence. In Jesus name, Amen.”

In a world of shifting values and uncertain voices, this passage from 2 Timothy offers a timeless anchor. Paul, writing to his spiritual son Timothy, reminds us that scripture is not merely a historical record or poetic inspiration—it is divinely breathed, alive with purpose, and essential for spiritual maturity.

Together let’s gently unpack what each phrase is telling us:

  • “All scripture is given by inspiration of God” — The Greek word for “inspiration” here is theopneustos, meaning “God-breathed.” This affirms that scripture is not man’s invention but God’s revelation. It carries His breath, His essence, His authority. Whether it comforts, convicts, or clarifies, it is infused with Divine life.
  • “Profitable for doctrine” — Scripture teaches us truth. It shapes our understanding of who God is, who we are, and how we are called to live. Doctrine is not cold theology—it’s the warm framework that holds our faith steady.
  • “For reproof” — Scripture lovingly confronts us. It shines light on error, not to shame us, but to guide us back to truth. Reproof is a sacred act of love—a Divine nudge toward alignment.
  • “For correction” — Beyond pointing out what’s wrong, scripture offers the path to restoration. It doesn’t leave us broken; it rebuilds us. Correction is the gentle hand of the Shepherd, redirecting our steps.
  • “For instruction in righteousness” — Scripture trains us in Holy living. It’s not just about avoiding sin—it’s about cultivating virtue, walking in peace, and embodying grace. It teaches us how to live as citizens of Heaven while walking on earth.
  • “That the man of God may be perfect” — The word “perfect” here means complete, mature, whole. Scripture is the tool God uses to shape us into vessels of His glory—not flawless, but faithful.
  • “Thoroughly furnished unto all good works” — Scripture equips us. It’s our spiritual toolkit, preparing us to serve, love, advocate, and build. Whether we’re caregiving, discerning legacy transitions, or offering devotional encouragement, scripture supplies what we need.

In today’s context, this verse reminds us that scripture is not outdated—it’s our daily bread. It speaks into caregiving routines, financial stewardship, legacy decisions, and ministry outreach. It helps us discern sanctuary-like spaces, advocate with dignity, and release tension through spiritual clarity. It is the voice that steadies us when the world feels and sounds loud.

“Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.” –Psalm 51:12

 

The Daily Cry for Restoration and Joy in the Lord

In this tender verse, David’s cry echoes the heart of every believer who has tasted the sweetness of God’s grace and longs to remain in its fullness. It is not merely a request for forgiveness—it is a plea for restoration, for the rekindling of joy that only comes from the assurance of salvation. This joy is not circumstantial; it is rooted in the eternal truth that we are redeemed, loved, and upheld by the Spirit of God.

Christian worship is not confined to a sanctuary or a Sunday morning. It is a daily posture of the heart, a continual offering of ourselves to the Lord in gratitude, reverence, and surrender. Whether in the quiet of dawn or the weariness of midnight, our intentions must remain steadfast: to seek the Lord, to delight in His presence, and to be upheld by His Spirit. The joy of salvation is not a fleeting emotion—it is a spiritual anchor, a wellspring that nourishes us through trials, transitions, and triumphs.

David’s prayer in Psalm 51 was birthed from repentance, but it blossomed into worship. DEAR GOD: I Lift My Eyes To You – Where My Help Comes~

Psalm 121 (KJV) – I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help!

 

When we take time to really absorb that verse from Psalm 121 and truly digest the meaning – we will begin to form a deeper connection and growth in the LORD.  This verse has always been a favorite of mine, but never more significant than the last several months in my life. So many things have transpired in a seemingly endless loop of events – that surrounded family, friends, and acquaintances – and in the world itself- that made me stop and think about that verse in a more profound fashion.

Knowing that our LORD is there seeing all, hearing all, and also “feeling” alongside you the pain, anguish, and the joy and triumphant celebrations – brings an immediate sense of relief and comfort that embraces the soul warmly and distinctly.

Being a follower and a Christian is a pathway that others who don’t have a relationship with God can’t begin to understand. They may sense it, or see it on those who have intimate relationships with the LORD, but alas, they can’t experience it first hand like those of us who do.

It can be tough staying on a path which leads to God at times.  But the resilience and the fortitude needed are given to us readily through His Spirit, and His guidance and His strength to endure and press forward and onward, to finishing this race He has set us on.

I cannot fully begin to understand how others who don’t know Him can even “exist” in this world of chaos and evil in epic proportions.  We have the ability to withstand forces that come against us in the spiritual realm, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, who has given us authority to do so.  It is through Him and Him alone that we can shake off the evil grip of the enemy, and sashay into His light and love.  We have confidence that we are able to fine tune the “static” of the evil one…seemingly effortless with Christ. Amen!

Today as you go forward – bow down and give extra special thanks and praise to the only ONE worthy and the only ONE capable of such magnificence, both big and small. To the One who gave it all for US!  

For those who are reading this and haven’t fully accepted the LORD as Savior – or want to know Him further, I pray that you will delve into the Word, and accept Him as your Lord and Savior- and then you will begin to see and feel what those of us who have been born of the Spirit are all about.  And then you too will begin to reap the rewards and benefits of being a part of His family – a big royal and united family- of the One who will never leave us or forsake us.

“Father, LORD – thank You for being faithful to us, and for caring so much You gave Your life for us so that we may live forever, we look to You for all things, and to You we surrender All things, in Jesus’ name, Amen.”

Isaiah 41:10 (KJV) “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”

DEAR GOD: Anchored in Eternal Love By Your Grace~

 “For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Romans 8:38–39  

This verse is a sweeping, soul-stirring anthem of assurance. Paul doesn’t just say we’re loved—he declares that nothing can sever that love. Not death, not life’s chaos, not spiritual forces, not the unknown future, not even the deepest valleys or highest peaks. It’s as if he’s searching the entire cosmos for a loophole—and finds none.

In today’s world, where uncertainty often feels like the only certainty, this promise is our anchor. We may feel tossed by grief, loneliness, or fear. We may wrestle with questions, with loss, with the ache of waiting. But God’s love is not fragile. It doesn’t flicker when we falter. It holds.

And after this life—when the veil lifts and eternity begins—we will see the fullness of that love face to face. No longer through tears or prayer, but in radiant glory. The eternal reward isn’t just heaven—it’s Him.

The One who loved us through every storm and never let go!
