Being Still and Knowing God is God

In the hustle and bustle of modern life, the concept of being still and recognizing the sovereignty of God can seem almost foreign. Yet, this timeless principle is as relevant today as it was in biblical times. The phrase “Be still, and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10) invites us into a deeper relationship with our Creator, urging us to pause, reflect, and trust in His divine plan.

The Story of Sarah

Sarah was a young woman living in a busy city. Her days were filled with work, social commitments, and endless to-do lists. Despite her active involvement in church, she often felt disconnected from God. One evening, overwhelmed by stress, she stumbled upon Psalm 46:10 during her Bible study: “Be still, and know that I am God.”

The Name Above All Names: A Reflection on Philippians 2:9-11

In the bustling tapestry of human existence, there exists a name that transcends time, culture, and circumstance—a name that echoes through the corridors of Eternity.

That name is Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the embodiment of love, grace, and redemption. In the epistle to the Philippians, we encounter a profound joyous truth and declaration:

“Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” –

Living a Fruitful Life: God’s Commandments and Our Love

In the quiet moments of reflection, we find ourselves yearning for a life that bears fruit—a life that echoes with purpose, love, and longevity. As Christians, we seek not only to exist but to thrive, to honor the Creator who breathed life into our very beings. Let us embark on this journey together, exploring the commandments that lead to a fruitful existence, right here and now, yes – it still pertains to this very moment in time.

God’s Word – is not fleeting! It is and has been set in stone since the beginning of time – we are subject to His Word, and should we veer in a different direction, the consequences will not be rewarding, that the LORD reminds us throughout. Our actions, or “lack thereof” have resounding and rebounding repercussions. Surely – God doesn’t want to lose us and invites us to accept Him (free choice) and when we do – we will be able to partake of the “fruits” and the “rewards” of Eternal bliss with our LORD – forever!

The Commandments of Longevity

Obeying God’s Way: Deuteronomy 5:33 reminds us to walk in the way the Lord commands, promising well-being and prolonged days in the land we inhabit. Our obedience is not mere compliance; it’s an act of trust, aligning our steps with divine wisdom.
Honoring Parents: Ephesians 6:1-4 emphasizes honoring our parents—the first commandment with a promise. By doing so, we create a legacy of respect, love, and interconnectedness that extends beyond our years.
Seeking God’s Blessings: Exodus 23:25-26 teaches us to serve the Lord wholeheartedly. In return, He blesses our sustenance, removes sickness, and ensures our days are fulfilled. Our bodies fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:13-16), become vessels for His purpose.

God’s Comfort in both good Times: And times of Helplessness and Anxiety.

Introduction:

Life often presents us with moments of helplessness and anxiety. Whether due to external circumstances, personal struggles, or overwhelming challenges, we all experience these emotions. Being mortals we can’t help but feel emotions surging. Whether it’s good happy moments. Or sad ones, such as the death of a loved one. Although we find comfort in our faith…there will be moments when we face adversity and feel anxious. It’s not something to be ashamed of! A lot of times- I will hear good intention Christians saying, “that anxiety isn’t from God – you are in a stronghold of the enemy.” That introduces guilt or has a tendency to bring riddling doubts of insecurity to the person experiencing the emotion. It’s not a “sin” to feel anxious – it is a natural emotion. God made us to “feel” all kinds of emotions. The problem is if “we choose to stay that way” and not run to the LORD for assurance.

As Christians we will find strength in God alone. It is He that will wipe away all of our “worries and troubles” and give us hope in times of sadness or dark moments in our lives.

And in such times, turning to God provides solace, guidance, and hope. Let’s together delve into this topic, examining moral views, meditative takeaways, reflective questions, and supportive scriptures. Let’s see how we might react the next time we may feel “helpless” or “anxious” – or someone we know, or someone we love feels that way. It is something we ALL experience at one time or another in our lifetime.

Moral Views:

Compassion: God’s heart overflows with compassion for His children. When we feel helpless or anxious, we can trust that He cares deeply for us. This is when we should immerse ourselves in His Word and all of His promises. He tells us continually “do not fear – for I am with You.” He promises to “never leave us” and these are all promises that we should meditate daily, and especially in times of turmoil.

Empathy: Jesus, during His earthly ministry, empathized with human suffering. He understands our struggles and invites us to cast our burdens upon Him (Matthew 11:28-30).

Meditative Thoughts:

Surrender: Acknowledge your limitations and surrender control to God. Surrender is not weakness; it’s an act of faith. Being helpless in terms of emotions or a situation is another human trait. It is the LORD we need at all times, but especially in anxious or sad moments.

Presence: God is with you even in the darkest moments. His presence brings comfort and strength. His Word and His “voice” is a powerfully soothing balm that eases our hurt and anxious soul. His commandments and His ways are the key to Life. His love brings Life. His love is unequalled. And there none like Him.

Reflective Questions:

What or whom do you fear?

Reflect on the specific fears or anxieties you face. Are they rooted in past experiences or future uncertainties?

Where do you find security?

Consider whether you seek security in God or rely solely on human solutions. Your answer to this question can be the “answer” for what is going on.

Relying on humans is usually futile and most times will not offer a solution. But relying upon the LORD – is a sure thing. His Word is unbreakable and so is His love for us!

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Isaiah 41:10:
“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

The Goodness of Waiting:

In the midst of life’s trials and uncertainties, we often find ourselves waiting—for answers, for healing, for restoration. The book of Lamentations, attributed to the prophet Jeremiah, captures the raw emotions of a people devastated by loss, yet it also reveals profound truths about God’s character. Let us delve into Lamentations 3:25 and explore its timeless message.

DEAR GOD: My Joy Is You My Sweet LORD!~

In the book of Nehemiah, we find a powerful moment when the people of Israel gathered to hear the Law of Moses. Ezra, the priest, stood before them, reading and explaining the sacred text. Amidst this assembly, Nehemiah delivered a profound message: “Go your way, eat the fat, drink the sweet, and send portions to those for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. Do not sorrow, for the joy of the Lord is your strength” Nehemiah 8:10 (NKJV).

This verse resonates across time and space, inviting us to explore its depths. Let’s together see if we can reveal its meaning, while drawing inspiration and practical wisdom for our lives today as Christians, in a world of “darkness.”

Understanding the Context

The scene unfolds in Jerusalem, during the Feast of Tabernacles. The people had returned from exile, and their hearts were tender as they listened to the Law and the Word of the LORD. Nehemiah, their governor, recognized the significance of this moment. He encouraged them not to mourn but to celebrate. Why? Because the joy of the Lord would be their strength. Our LORD is always a fortress of strength and refuge for us, His children. When we listen to His Word and follow His commandments – we have not only the position of being His “child” but one that has the overlaying protection and wisdom coming from above. It is “our joy” and we are inherently equipped with our ‘weapons’ of defense in all earthly encounters – making us “victorious” through Christ! Now that is what I count as “joy!” Amen.

The Joy of the Lord

Physical Nourishment: “Eat the fat, drink the sweet.” Nehemiah’s words remind us that God cares about our well-being. He invites us to enjoy life’s blessings—both physical and spiritual. As Christians, we can savor the richness of God’s provision without guilt. Our joy is not separate from our faith; it is an integral part of it, and one in which the LORD encourages us to partake in.
Generosity: “Send portions to those for whom nothing is prepared.” True joy overflows into acts of kindness. When we share our blessings with others, we participate in God’s joy. Whether it’s a meal, a kind word, or a helping hand, our generosity reflects His heart. Our compassion and our actions will invariably reflect Christ’ spirit and love.

Meditative Thoughts

Contentment: In a world filled with striving and comparison, the joy of the Lord reminds us to find contentment in Him. We don’t need to chase after fleeting pleasures; our strength lies in His presence alone!
Gratitude: Pause and reflect on the sweet moments—the laughter, the warmth of relationships, the simple pleasures. Gratitude transforms ordinary days into holy ones, and memorable comforting moments!
Community: The call to share portions emphasizes community. We are not isolated individuals; we belong to a family of believers. Our joy multiplies when we celebrate together. We are One Body in CHRIST!

Zechariah 14:9 – The Lord’s Universal Kingship

Zechariah 14:9 declares, “And the LORD shall be king over all the earth; in that day shall there be one LORD, and his name one.”

This verse encapsulates a powerful vision of God’s ultimate reign and unity. Let’s see if we can delve into this further and try to embrace and apply this to our lives today as Christians.

Context and Meaning:

Zechariah prophesies about a future time when God’s dominion will extend globally. It’s a day when the Lord’s Sovereignty will be universally acknowledged. The phrase “One LORD” emphasizes the unity of God. All distinctions and divisions will fade away, leaving only one true faith and worship. ALL will be ONE in the body of Christ!

Scriptural Support:

Isaiah 45:23: “I have sworn by myself, the Word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, that unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear.”

Philippians 2:10-11: “That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

In a fragmented world, Christians must exemplify unity. We can promote God’s glory by loving one another, regardless of denominational labels. Our witness matters. When we live out Christ’s Lordship, we draw others to Him. By reflecting His light from within as He dwells in us, present Him in all we do and say, and in so doing – we can exemplify the LORD in ways He expects us to do as Children of God!

Consensus of the World:

While the world may resist, Zechariah’s vision will ultimately come to pass. Our role is to faithfully proclaim the truth!

Promoting God and His Glory Today:

Prayers: Let us continue to pray for unity among believers, for revival, and for the fulfillment of Zechariah’s prophecy and God’s Holy Word!

Evangelism: Share the Gospel boldly, knowing that Jesus alone is the way, truth, and life!

Lifestyle: Live in a way that magnifies God’s name, reflecting His character!

“Send Out Your Light”

Psalm 43:3 is a heartfelt plea to God, expressing the psalmist’s longing for Divine guidance and illumination. The verse beautifully captures the essence of our own personal spiritual journey—a desire to be led by God’s glorious and magnificent light and truth. Let’s unpack this verse together and see if we can truly comprehend and understand what it means, especially to us in todays’ world and times.

Context and Interpretation

The psalmist implores God to “send out Your light and Your truth.” This request reflects a deep yearning for spiritual enlightenment. The imagery of light symbolizes God’s presence, wisdom, and revelation. Truth represents God’s unwavering faithfulness and His Word—the ultimate source of guidance. When we seek Him in all we do and obey His Word – we receive blessings and wisdom as we start to immerse ourselves in Him and His “voice.” It’s a commitment and a loving type of existence when we follow Him and try to walk and stay on the righteous path – leading to eternal rewards. But we are weak, and mortals. We cannot do it alone! Only through His strength, and His sustenance can we subsist in a world that is inherently “dark and unyielding” as evidenced by all that is happening around us in our own country and throughout the world. God is the light and the power and the One who is in control at all times, and His hands are the guiding force and gentle direction in which we all emerge victorious – which can only be done through CHRIST!

We learn that relying on God’s light and truth is essential for our well-being. Which is to say – our health, heart, body, mind and soul – and Christ is the One that keep us living and breathes LIFE in to all of us. The WORD does that it brings life. Just as it did in Ezekiel (37:4-8) when he spoke the Word to the dry bones, and they became flesh and came alive! O LORD, who shall sojourn in your tent? Who shall dwell on your holy hill? He who walks blamelessly and does what is right and speaks truth in his heart- Psalm 15:1-2 (ESV)

Psalm 15:1-2 beautifully captures the essence of a righteous life. Let’s explore its meaning and try to grasp what we are called to do as Christians.

Sojourning in God’s Tent: This phrase symbolizes seeking God’s presence and dwelling close to Him. It reflects a desire for intimacy with the Divine. To sojourn in God’s tent means to live a life centered around faith, prayer, and worship.

Doing What Is Right: Actions matter. Living justly, showing kindness, and helping others align with God’s heart.

Dwelling on the Holy Hill: The “holy hill” refers to Mount Zion, where the temple stood in Jerusalem. Spiritually, it represents being in God’s presence. Those who dwell there are those who live uprightly and honorably.

Walking Blamelessly: Not perfection, but sincere effort. Integrity, honesty, and moral consistency matter. Doing all things that we know would please God. Doing nothing of a devious nature, or underhanded matter, instead concentrating on what is pure and good in our attempts each day.

Speaking Truth in the Heart: Beyond mere words, it’s about genuine intentions. No deceit, no double-mindedness-or deceiving others along the way. It is a matter of speaking truth and living with integrity and fortitude of strength through Christ.

Honoring Others: Esteem those who fear the Lord. Reject vile behavior but extend grace as Christ extends it to us. Be kind and encouraging. Engage in circumstances that we are called upon to do so. Be with others and offer words to those who need to be encouraged and comforted or supported.

Keeping Promises: Even when it hurts, uphold commitments. Not just speaking – but applying what we are “saying” and putting it into action. Talk is “words” but “actions” are putting forth and doing as we are saying.

Financial Integrity: No exploitation, no bribery. Uphold justice. Just pure truth and honesty – no trickery. Nothing of a devious or false manner or front.

Relevance Today

In our chaotic world, Psalm 15 remains relevant at all times.

Integrity Amid Deception: In a culture of misinformation, truth-telling matters. Can we be voices of honesty?

Compassion in Conflict: Amid polarization, can we honor those who differ from us? Extend grace even when it’s hard?

Promises Kept: Trust erodes when promises break. Can we be people of unwavering commitment?

Ethical Finances: In a profit-driven society, can we resist exploiting others? Uphold justice, even in financial matters?

“He who does these things shall never be moved.” (Psalm 15:5, ESV)

Steadfastness comes from righteous living. When our foundation rests on integrity, we withstand life’s storms. When we stand on the Rock, we are sure footed and impervious to life’s evil mockery and are strong in the face of adversity. When we meditate of God’s Word, His Promises, and His Presence in our lives, we are able to “move mountains” and “walk on water” with His holy hands guiding us, directing us, leading us, healing us. We not be moved, we cannot be veered in another direction – we stay the path of righteousness and the road to eternity.
