The Purpose of Christ’s Life: A Story

In the Beginning

In the quietude of eternity past, before galaxies spun into existence and stars ignited, there was a divine whisper—a purpose. The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit danced in harmonious love, their essence intertwined. Yet, in this cosmic symphony, a longing emerged—a longing to redeem, restore, and reconcile.

The Incarnation

And so it began. The Word, the Logos, clothed Himself in fragile flesh. The infinite squeezed into the finite, divinity veiled by humanity. Bethlehem’s stable cradled the hope of ages—the Savior, Jesus Christ. His purpose? Not merely to teach or perform miracles, but to bridge the chasm between God and humanity.

The Journey

Scripture: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)

Moral Insight: Love compels sacrifice. Christ’s purpose was love incarnate—a love that would bleed, suffer, and die. His life echoed the Father’s heartbeat: redemption.

Let’s delve into the rich meaning of Philippians 4:19. We will find an amass amount of comfort knowing and believing in His Word, and His promises. When we focus on God’s great glory and love for us, it becomes a lot easier to navigate in a world of uncertainty – because the LORD is real and His love and mercy never waver. In a world of disappointments and harsh evil – the LIGHT of the LORD shines and brings elements of peace and certainty to our lives.

The Context:

Paul wrote these words while imprisoned, facing adversity and uncertainty. Despite his circumstances, he exudes joy and contentment. His confidence lies not in earthly abundance but in God’s unwavering provision. His countenance was always steady and confident in God’s love and provisions, even at the darkest moments in his life. He knew that the light and love of the LORD would bring him through everything he was going through. That no matter how bleak or hopeless the circumstances, he knew in his heart that the LORD would and could change the situation he was in by a wave of his hand and mercy.  Divine Vengeance and Redemption 

Introduction

The verse from Psalm 3:7—“Arise, O Lord; save me, O my God: for thou hast smitten all mine enemies upon the cheek bone; thou hast broken the teeth of the ungodly”—resonates with themes of divine intervention, justice, and deliverance.

Christianity Today: A Lens on John 17:9-10

In our modern context, these verses illuminate several aspects of Christian living:

Intercession: Jesus models intercessory prayer. As believers, we are called to intercede for one another, lifting each other up before God. Praying for others is a powerful action for Christians. It is the action and belief that a higher power, Christ can intercede – and is listening to our requests, at all times.

Selective Prayer: Jesus’ focus on His disciples teaches us discernment. We pray not only for ourselves but also for those entrusted to our care. When we pray for others, we represent Christ and His light. His Spirit guides us through the process and the unction from the Spirit provokes us to respond accordingly. We take responsibility in the name of CHRIST and let our requests be known, and if according to His will – it shall be done.

Glorification: Our unity with Christ brings glory to Him. When we live in harmony, reflecting His love, we magnify His name. When we purport to live according to His commandments and His Gospel, we are magnifying His glory to not only ourselves, but to others as a witness to His Magnificence and Omnipotent power and Presence.

Ethical Implications

Inclusivity: Jesus’ prayer extends beyond His immediate circle. It went to ALL individuals, no exceptions. He loved mightily and freely. He extended that mercy upon all who were willing to receive it. How can we broaden our prayers to include others?

Stewardship: Recognizing that all are God’s, we become stewards of His grace. We accept that role readily and without hesitation respond in a loving and sincere fashion in all we do and speak.

God’s Love: The Heart of John 17:9-10

God’s love permeates every word. Jesus prays for His own, affirming their belongingness. His love transcends boundaries, embracing us as His children. We, too, are recipients of this Divine affection, it extends to ALL generations, has in the past, currently, and into the future generations – until the end of the age. His love knows no boundaries – He loves unconditionally- and He waits with open arms for us to accept Him as our LORD and Savior, our Redeemer, the one true Son of the only living God!  Have you accepted Him?

In our present age, Christianity faces diverse and exceedingly difficult and changing challenges, along with opportunities. It grapples with questions of ethics, mortality and faith in a rapidly deteriorating world that is seemingly crumbling in a constant state of iniquity and debauchery. Yes, there is light and goodness, and it will prevail. But the “darkness” and the chaos is what most people “thrive in” -that is to say, media, news, etc.  You see being faithful, living a clean and healthy life, representing the light of Christ, and reflecting His love is not of “popular opinion” or mind. But it is our inherent duty as Christians, to stand up and maintain that structure on the Rock, in all we say and do on a daily basis, irrespective of what “the media or news” circa wants to promote.  Keep promoting instead – the LORD Jesus Christ!

 Morality and Reflection

Morality—the prevailing standards of behavior— especially as individuals of deep faith -shapes our lives. The heavens’ declaration invites us to reflect on our actions, choices, and values. And to always consider and put Christ first in all we do. Contemplate, and prayer and coummune with the LORD on everything, and you will no doubt be able to navigate the toughest time with relative ease and peace when you do so!

  1. What moral principles guide my decisions?
  2. How do I align my life with God’s design?
  3. Am I pursuing righteousness in my daily interactions?

“Rooted by the Waters: Trusting in the Lord”

In the bustling city of Jerusalem, where life’s trials and temptations abound, Jeremiah’s words echo through time. He paints a vivid picture of a blessed man—one who trusts in the Lord and finds hope in His unwavering love. Let us explore and look beneath the layers of meaning within this verse.

The Blessed Man

Trusting in the Lord is the cornerstone of true blessing. Our dependence on God surpasses reliance on human strength or worldly solutions. Suffice it to say, we cannot accomplish things alone without His hand of guidance and His Presence in our lives. It is one thing to do things, but quite another to be successful and at ease in what we do. When we are at ease, it is usually a sign that is from above – from the LORD. When filled with vapid uneasiness or doubt, it can usually be a sign that it is not the will of God, and He wants to get your attention.

Christianity Today: Jeremiah likens the blessed man to a tree planted by the waters. This tree thrives, even in adversity. Its roots reach deep, drawing sustenance from the life-giving stream. Because the roots are entrenched fully, completely in the LORD!  When we are securely rooted in Him – we will blossom and create fruits of the Spirit which will take us through life in a way God planned.

We, too, can be like this tree—rooted in God’s promises. Our spiritual nourishment comes from prayer, Scripture, and fellowship. And faith in the LORD in all things. Not relying on humans, because they will undoubtedly fail to meet our expectations. Conversely, the LORD will meet and exceed all of our expectations, His mercy is never ending, and faithful to us always.

Facing Heat and Drought


The blessed man remains green even in scorching heat. His trust shields him from anxiety during spiritual droughts. Trusting in the LORD is akin to having a “shield” around us at all times. It is our protection from all kinds of elements and destruction and evil things happening in the world. When we trust in Him, we are able to see in the “spiritual realm” seeking things from above at all times, and the Kingdom of God of which is what we are striving for.

  1. How do we respond when life’s heat intensifies?
  2. What practices keep our faith vibrant during dry seasons?
