 His Light Shines Through Trials: Trust in the LORD

In the journey of life, there are moments when we feel stuck in an endless cycle of trials, with each day bringing new challenges and hardships. It is in these dark times, when hope seems distant, that we are called to hold fast to the LORD. The psalmist declares in Psalm 34:19 (KJV), “Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.” This verse is a reminder that while trials are a part of our earthly existence, our faith in God is our anchor and our shield.

Lessons from Yesterday and Today

In biblical times, figures like Job and David experienced intense periods of suffering and despair. Job, despite losing everything, remained steadfast in his faith, declaring, “Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him” (Job 13:15, KJV). David, fleeing from King Saul, found solace in God, writing, “The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer” (2 Samuel 22:2, KJV). These examples from the past show us that unwavering trust in God amidst trials is not new but a timeless truth.

Today, we may face different kinds of trials—financial hardships, health issues, broken relationships, or emotional turmoil. However, the core of our response should remain the same: trust in the LORD. Modern-day challenges might be daunting, but God’s promises stand unchanged. Hebrews 13:8 (KJV) assures us, “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.”

Joseph, despite facing numerous trials, remained grounded in his faith and trust in God, eventually rising to a position of great influence and saving many lives (Genesis 37-50). Daniel, too, exemplified unwavering commitment to God’s commandments, even in the face of persecution, and was blessed with wisdom and favor (Daniel 1-6). These stories serve as powerful reminders of the blessings that come from abiding in God’s presence and following His ways.

In our modern world, the principles of being planted by the river are as relevant as ever. We face a barrage of information, opinions, and temptations that can lead us astray. By intentionally grounding ourselves in God’s Word, we cultivate a life that is not only resilient but also impactful, bearing fruit that nourishes others and brings glory to His name.

 “LORD -Heavenly Father, thank You for Your boundless love and kindness. Help us to be like the tree planted by the river, drawing strength and nourishment from Your Word. It’s about making decisions that are right and just, treating others with respect, and standing up for what is morally correct, even when it’s challenging. Reflect on times in your life when you have faced a moral dilemma. How did you choose to act? Did you consider what would be the just and fair thing to do?

As we welcome the dawn of a New Year, let’s take a moment to lift our hearts in worship and thanksgiving to the LORD, who has graciously carried us through another year. His love, mercy, and faithfulness have been our constant companions, and we stand on the threshold of this new beginning filled with hope and gratitude.

New Year Message: Heavenly Father, we come before You in awe of Your greatness and Your unfailing love. As we step into this New Year, we give You all the glory and honor. We thank You for the countless blessings You have poured out upon us, and for the lessons and growth that have come through the challenges we’ve faced. We acknowledge Your sovereign hand in every moment of our lives, and we entrust our future into Your loving care.

Your Word reminds us: “The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness” (Lamentations 3:22-23). As we enter this New Year, we are comforted by the truth that Your mercies are new each day, and Your faithfulness is unwavering.

Listening to God’s Voice 

The Call to Listen

The practice of listening to God’s voice is timeless and powerful. It’s both a personal journey and a communal endeavor, deeply rooted in the Scriptures and applicable to our daily lives today. Listening to God requires intention, patience, and a heart open to His guidance.

Scripture provides numerous examples and instructions about listening to God. One of the most poignant is found in 1 Kings 19:11-12:

  “The Lord said, ‘Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.’ Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper.”

Here, Elijah learns that God’s voice can be found in the stillness, in the gentle whisper. This teaches us that to hear God, we often need to quiet our minds and hearts.

Another key verse is John 10:27:

  “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.”

“Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.” –
John 14:1-3 (KJV)

In these verses, Jesus offers a profound message of comfort and hope to His disciples. Knowing the trials and tribulations they would soon face, He reassures them that their faith in God and in Him will sustain them. Jesus speaks of His Father’s house with many mansions, a metaphor for the Eternal home He is preparing for all believers.

This promise is not only for His disciples but extends to all who place their trust in Him. The assurance of His return to take us to this Divine abode fills our hearts with peace and expectation. It completes our faith in terms of trust and surrendering to His will and commandments in everything we do. It is the quintessential breath of being a Christ follower, and honoring Him and acknowledging Him always. And when we do so, He will honor and guide us and show us the paths in which to walk. And it will be health and joy to our body, heart and soul.
