Psalm 91 Prayer for Strong Protection from the Bible

 

Psalm 91, often referred to as the “Psalm of Protection,” is a profound source of comfort and assurance for many believers. It speaks of God’s providence and presence in the midst of danger and fear. When we reflect on this Psalm, we see how the LORD is in fact our Fortress and our ultimate Protector in all things, each day of our life and beyond.

The Refuge and Fortress

Psalm 91 opens with a powerful declaration of trust in God’s protection. “He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty” (Psalm 91:1).

This verse seemingly invites us to consider our own relationship with God. Do we see Him as our refuge and fortress? In times of trouble, do we confidently seek His presence, believing that He will cover us with His wings?

The Promise of Deliverance

As the Psalm progresses, it promises deliverance from the “snare of the fowler” and from “deadly pestilence” (Psalm 91:3). Reflect on the times when you felt trapped or faced a situation that seemed insurmountable. Can you recall a moment when you experienced God’s deliverance?

Fearless in the Face of Night Terrors

Verse 5 assures us that we need not fear the terrors of the night or the arrow that flies by day. In our lives, these fears can manifest in many ways—perhaps as literal fear of the dark or metaphorically as the unknowns that lurk in our future. What are the ‘night terrors’ that you face, and how do you find peace?

A Thousand May Fall

The Psalmist writes, “A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you” (Psalm 91:7). This verse speaks to the protection God offers even when calamity seems to surround us. How does this promise shape your perspective on the trials you witness or experience?

The Angelic Charge

God’s care is so profound that He commands His angels to guard us in all our ways (Psalm 91:11). This Divine Guardianship is a testament to our value in God’s eyes. How does the knowledge of angelic protection influence your daily walk?

The Lion and the Serpent

The imagery of treading upon the lion and the serpent (Psalm 91:13) symbolizes triumph over powerful and cunning adversaries. What are the ‘lions’ and ‘serpents’ in your life, and how do you confront them with faith?

The Assurance of Salvation

The Psalm concludes with God’s voice, promising salvation to those who love Him (Psalm 91:14-16). It’s a powerful ending that reassures us of the ultimate victory we have in God. How does the assurance of salvation empower you to live boldly and righteously?

Concluding Thoughts

Psalm 91 is not just a set of verses to be recited; it’s a call to live with unshakeable faith in God’s protection and provision. It challenges us to reflect on our fears, our battles, and our salvation. As we ponder these truths, we find a wellspring of courage and peace that flows from trusting in the Almighty.

 “Dear Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts full of gratitude for the promises of Psalm 91. We ask for the faith to dwell in Your shelter and the courage to stand firm in the face of life’s challenges. May Your truth be our shield and rampart, and Your salvation our everlasting hope. In Jesus precious Holy name, we pray. Amen.”

DEAR GOD:I Hear Your Love In The Ocean’s Roar~

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you.
–Isaiah 43:2

God’s mercy and power encompass all things. The Universe responds to His mighty Omnipotence and His Promises reach all that embrace them.  “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts” –
Isaiah 55:8-9.

The King reigns and is in control of all. When we accomplish something in our lives, it is because of a dual effect. We essentially made the right choice and worked hard for it, but we only attained it – because fundamentally God was in control, and made it happen. Our choices have dire consequences when they’re outside the parameters of God’s will and purpose. Ostensibly, when we make the right choices, we will invariably excel at all we do, by God’s hands of grace and love.

People who don’t know of God and His love are limited in their ability to thrive. Oh, yeah, they may appear to be prosperous by outside measures, but what is inside? There is no fuel or purpose to their folly – for it lacks all wisdom or moral compass.

Instead, most times their “acts of moral turpitude” are repulsive to those who stand with God – and there really isn’t much substance to their overall structure in their lives.  It’s actually quite inept and seemingly sad. They may have troubles inwardly, and not know how to tune into the best Being ever, JESUS!

We are called to help those in the dark. To be judicious in our choices, and to turn from evil – but at the same time to spread seeds of the truth to those who wish to hear.

Blessed is those who know Him and accept Him. For their lives, although may not be completely free of heartaches, loss, and troubles – but rest assured, with God in their lives it will be easier to navigate rough waters and be lulled into the safe harbor of His arms, each and every time – He is there!

How are you fixed with Jesus? Do you know Him personally? Do you know about His love for you? Open His book – His love letter written to us – and learn about Him and accept Him as Your LORD and Savior – and He promises a life well worth living!

“Father, thank You for Your promises, Your ways, Your love, Your endless path to peace and harmony, may I always ascribe to Your commandments, and always stand in faith, in Your precious name Jesus, Amen.”

DEAR GOD: How Do We Handle Harsh Words?

You have always put a wall of protection around him…take away ...

 

No weapon formed against you shall prosper,
And every tongue which rises against you in judgment
You shall condemn.
This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord,
And their righteousness is from Me,”
Says the Lord – Isaiah 54:17 (KJV).

When a friend or loved one tosses harsh words your way it could send a piercing dart through your heart. It might also “anger” you, or stupefy you totally into oblivion, leaving you confused and wondering how someone who supposedly cares for you might say such words!

It can bring an array of emotions that cascade through your being. Although the enemy may be whispering to you, “react, and answer and get angry” – don’t!  Stop and ask for peace of Christ, ask the Spirit to guide you and hold you up. And take comfort in the words of the LORD.  His promises to protect you from those who mean you harm or spill vitriolic sewage your way cannot penetrate their caustic words into your soul.

Isaiah 41:10 -“Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”

These words are not just mere words as mortals usually espouse. No, in fact this is directly from His mouth to His children. He promises to uphold us in all matters pertaining to our protection and our lives.

Psalm 27:1 -“The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid?”

The light of my salvation— whom shall I fear? No one! Is the answer each and every time. I will state that emphatically and without recourse.  Words are just that- words. When words from mortals spew harsh and cruel, remember they’re not from our Father above, and it shouldn’t penetrate our souls. In fact, those who use “verbal attacks” usually aren’t standing in the light. It can come from the “opposite” side of Christ. So, take that into consideration as well.

Psalm 138:7 -“Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You will revive me; You will stretch out Your hand Against the wrath of my enemies, And Your right hand will save me.”

This verse in particular helped me this very morning as I am facing a situation that came out of left field. I have no clue about where or why this circumstance surfaced in the first place. However, I run to the Bible and the LORD for His protection and His light to overcome the darkness and to replenish my soul with His love. That’s all I need.

Ephesians 6:11-12 -“Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”

I never leave home with my armor of protection. I never get nervous about anything because I am fully clothed in His Gospel. It requires a great deal of faith, dedication and trust in the LORD at all times in order to “glide” over the bumpy, rocky road of trials and tribulations. Which includes but not limited to harsh words, harsh actions, and the evil in the world overall.

In times of trouble, we can find refuge in God’s protection. This is what we should think of when we hear harsh words.  These verses remind us of His provision and care for us:

  • Psalm 57:1 “Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me! For my soul trusts in You; And in the shadow of Your wings I will make my refuge, Until these calamities have passed by.”
  • Psalm 61:2 “From the end of the earth I will cry to You, When my heart is overwhelmed; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.”
  • Psalm 62:8 “Trust in Him at all times, you people; Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us. Selah”Psalm 71:3 “Be my strong refuge, To which I may resort continually; You have given the commandment to save me, For You are my rock and my fortress.”
  • Nahum 1:7 “The Lord is good, A stronghold in the day of trouble; And He knows those who trust in Him.”

Has someone or something thrown you a curve today in terms of harshness or seemingly out of nowhere? Is there something troubling you right this moment that has you upset, nervous, angry or sad? Take comfort in His promises and His Word, and in His love, it will reinforce your heart, mind body and soul.

“Father, thank You for Your Words and promises, I answer to You alone, and find refuge in Your love and light, may I always refer to Your Word in all things, and recognize that You are there holding me up through all things, and all circumstances, you are guiding me fully at all times, and my provisions and soul are fulfilled by Your love, Word and promises, in Christ’ name, Amen.”
