DEAR GOD: We Are Victorious & Triumph Through Christ~

 “But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” – 1 Corinthians 15:571

Victory is a theme that resonates throughout the Bible, from the Old Testament’s tales of deliverance to the New Testament’s promises of spiritual triumph. It’s a concept that transcends mere earthly wins, pointing us towards a greater victory won through faith and perseverance.

Body In the scriptures, victory is often depicted not as a result of human endeavor but as a gift from God. Deuteronomy 20:4 assures us, “For the Lord your God is he who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies, to give you the victory.”

This verse encapsulates the biblical perspective that victory is not in numbers or strength but in divine support.

The New Testament further emphasizes this by highlighting the ultimate victory over sin and death achieved through Jesus Christ. Romans 8:37 declares, “No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

Here, Paul speaks of a victory that is not just about overcoming but about transcending; it’s about being “more than conquerors.”

  • How can we apply the understanding of victory in faith to our daily struggles?
  • In what ways does recognizing God as the source of our victory change our perspective on challenges?

Conclusion

The essence of biblical victory lies not in the absence of struggle but in the presence of God within those struggles. It’s about the peace and assurance that come from knowing that, in the end, faith grants us victory over the greatest adversary—our own limitations. In that being said, we are ONLY victorious through CHRIST alone. If we were by ourselves, we wouldn’t need Him. But I have news for the world in those that DON’T Believe – WE NEED HIM!

“Dear Heavenly Father, we thank You for the victory You provide through Your Son, Jesus Christ. May we always remember that our strength lies not in ourselves but in You. Help us to trust in Your victory, to face our battles with courage, and to emerge more than conqueror, which only can be done in Jesus’ name, Amen.”

DEAR GOD: Resilience and Hope in the Modern World~

Resilience and Hope in the Modern World

The Apostle Paul’s second letter to the Corinthians, particularly chapters 4 and 5, offers profound insights into the Christian experience of suffering and the unwavering hope in eternal glory. These passages are not just ancient texts but are living words that continue to resonate with believers today.

The Treasure in Jars of Clay

Paul begins by describing believers as having this treasure in jars of clay to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us1. The metaphor of jars of clay signifies our human frailty and vulnerability. In our modern context, this can be seen in the daily struggles we face, whether they be health issues, financial stress, or relational conflicts. Yet, despite these challenges, the treasure within us—our faith and the presence of the Holy Spirit—remains unbroken. This divine power gives us resilience to endure hardships, reminding us that our worth is not determined by our external circumstances.

Present Weakness and Resurrection Life

Paul speaks candidly about being hard-pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair.

Today, we can feel overwhelmed by the pace of change, the complexity of the world, and the sheer volume of information that bombards us.

Yet, Paul’s words encourage us to remain steadfast, knowing that our current troubles are temporary and are preparing us for an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison

Fixing Our Eyes on What is Unseen

One of the most powerful exhortations in these chapters is to fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen

In a society that often values material success and visible achievements, this call to focus on the spiritual and eternal is countercultural. It challenges us to prioritize our relationship with God, our character development, and our service to others—things that have lasting value.

The Ministry of Reconciliation

Moving into chapter 5, Paul discusses the ministry of reconciliation, emphasizing that if anyone is in Christ, they are a new creation.

This transformative message is vital in a world rife with division and hostility. As Christians, we are called to be ambassadors of reconciliation, promoting peace and unity in our communities.

Living with an Eternal Perspective

Finally, Paul’s assurance that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life.

It provides a perspective that changes how we live in the present. Knowing that our earthly life is a prelude to something far greater enables us to live with purpose and hope, even amidst suffering.

In conclusion- 2 Corinthians 4-5 teaches us to embrace our weaknesses, to find strength in God’s power, and to keep our hope anchored in the eternal. As we apply these truths to our lives, we become beacons of resilience and hope in a world that desperately needs it.

Jesus’ Temptations in the Desert: A Modern Reflection

The narrative of Jesus’ temptations in the desert, as recounted in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke, presents a profound examination of human vulnerability and divine faithfulness. This story, while ancient, speaks volumes to our contemporary struggles with temptation and the pursuit of integrity.

The Wilderness Experience

After fasting for forty days and nights, Jesus was physically weakened and vulnerable, an embodiment of human frailty. It was in this state that the devil approached Him, presenting three temptations: to turn stones into bread, to throw Himself from the temple’s pinnacle, and to worship Satan in exchange for the kingdoms of the world (Matthew 4:1-11; Luke 4:1-13). These temptations were not merely tests of Jesus’ resolve but were profound challenges to His identity and mission.

The Relevance Today

The temptations Jesus faced in the desert are emblematic of the choices we confront daily. The temptation to turn stones into bread represents our struggle with materialism and the desire to satisfy our immediate needs and wants, often at the expense of our spiritual well-being. The temptation to throw Himself from the temple reflects our yearning for recognition and the lure of testing God’s promises. God, Forgiveness and Me – Walnut Hill Church of Christ

The Blessing of Forgiveness  

In the heart of the Psalms, we find the profound truths of human experience and divine grace interwoven in poetic harmony. Psalm 32:1, as rendered in the KJV, declares, “Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.” This verse encapsulates the essence of spiritual relief and joy that comes from the reconciliation with God.

The Weight of Transgression

Transgression, by its very nature, is a deviation from the path of righteousness. It is a burden that weighs heavily upon the soul, causing a rift between the individual and the divine. The Psalmist, King David, understood this all too well. In Psalm 51:3, he confesses, “For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.” The constant awareness of his failings was a source of deep anguish.

The Joy of Forgiveness

Yet, the verse from Psalm 32 speaks of a blessed state, a condition where sin is not only acknowledged but also forgiven. This forgiveness is not a mere overlooking of faults; it is an active covering, a protective grace that shields the repentant heart from the consequences of its own failings. In Psalm 103:12, we are reminded, “As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.” The imagery is powerful—our sins are not just hidden; they are removed entirely, lost in the infinite expanse of God’s mercy.

Reflections on Grace

This divine grace is not earned; it is given freely. Ephesians 2:8-9 affirms, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” The Psalmist’s declaration of blessedness is thus a testament to the unmerited favor bestowed upon us. It is a call to humility and gratitude, recognizing that our redemption is not a badge of personal honor, but a gift to be received with a contrite heart.

Some thoughts to consider as we meditate upon this Psalm verse:

  1.  When have you experienced the relief of forgiveness in your own life, and how did it change your perspective or behavior?
  2.  How does the concept of grace, as an unearned gift from God, influence your view of forgiveness and redemption?
  3.  In what ways can acknowledging and receiving forgiveness for your transgressions lead to spiritual growth and a stronger relationship with God?
  4.   How might the principle of forgiveness described in Psalm 32:1 affect the way you interact with and treat others in your community?
  5.   Can you think of a situation where you might need to extend forgiveness to someone else? How could you go about doing this in a way that reflects the forgiveness you’ve received?

“Heavenly Father, I come before You in awe of Your boundless grace. I am grateful for the forgiveness that You offer, which covers my transgressions and restores my inner spirit. May I always cherish the blessedness of Your mercy and strive to walk in the light of Your truth. Guide me in Your ways and help me to extend the same forgiveness to others that I have received from You. In the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen.”

This reflection on Psalm 32:1 should invite us to ponder the depth of God’s forgiveness and the transformative power it holds. It is a reminder that in the embrace of His Perfect and unsurpassed love, we find the truest form of blessedness—a soul unburdened and a life renewed.

Walking In The Spirit - Part 1 - CrossBridge Community Church

Living life according to the Spirit is a process and a journey. There are so many great verses throughout the Bible that discuss being and walking in the Spirit, Romans 8 – may perhaps be one of the most insightful. Walking in the Spirit promotes general well-being. Even when things are bleak and you might be hindered by circumstances, situations, individuals, or events that transpired in your life-being led by the Holy Spirit will bring about ways in which you not only can and will cope, but will survive all things in life.

Walk in the Spirit (Romans 8:4)

There truly isn’t any shortcut to learning about “how to walk by the Spirit.” Life in the Spirit is trying to live according to God’s law and fundamentally do the right thing. But it’s much more than that. Walking in the Spirit is what it means to live as a Christian-some might say it’s like a light went off -and that light is Jesus Christ.

Set your minds on the things of the Spirit (Romans 8:5)
The question becomes sort of an old riddle: “How can someone extract all of the air out from a drinking glass? – The answer-fill it with something else!

So how do we overcome and pull away from our flesh and our mortal carnal ways, thoughts, actions? Well similar to the riddle, you need to “fill up on good things, godly things, clean things, an entirely different mindset that is strictly oriented toward the things of the Sprit-(Galatians 5:22–23)

We can’t extract thoughts that are displeasing to God from our minds. So, we have to “fill up on all good things.” When we put to the death the deeds of our body by the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:13) Life becomes engaging in the most beautiful ways. We get to view, act upon and develop into who we are supposed to be, according to the LORD, and we are then able to serve Him in all kinds of capacities. We are then actively involved with being “one body in Christ.”

Pray in the Spirit.  (Romans 8:26–27)
We are unsure at times what we need or how to ask for help. We are shown that the Holy Spirit will make known by intercessory prayers to the Father, by groanings from within. Overall outcome and result is that our prayers will be answered according to the will of God, because the Spirit is moving us to pray thusly, and in fact presenting our prayer to the Father, and guiding us all the way through!

Eventually walking, acting and presenting in the Spirit to all those we encounter will become part of whom we are.In fact, it is who we are! We are one body in Christ. Believers have His Spirit within. And we can accomplish so much more when we do things in the Spirit, as we are intended to do. The Bible has so many more rich verses pertaining to this in both OT and NT. We just have to open His book and read and commune with Him.  And doing all this- will in fact, make our life a life worth LIVING!

“LORD, help guide and direct me along the highway of life, show me the paths in which I should walk, teach me the gentleness of Your Spirit, help me to walk elegantly and majestically in the Spirit as You have, open my eyes, ears heart and soul to be more like Jesus’ Spirit each day of my life, in Jesus’ name, Amen.”

 

 

 

 

 

DEAR GOD: How Do We Handle Harsh Words?

You have always put a wall of protection around him…take away ...

 

No weapon formed against you shall prosper,
And every tongue which rises against you in judgment
You shall condemn.
This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord,
And their righteousness is from Me,”
Says the Lord – Isaiah 54:17 (KJV).

When a friend or loved one tosses harsh words your way it could send a piercing dart through your heart. It might also “anger” you, or stupefy you totally into oblivion, leaving you confused and wondering how someone who supposedly cares for you might say such words!

It can bring an array of emotions that cascade through your being. Although the enemy may be whispering to you, “react, and answer and get angry” – don’t!  Stop and ask for peace of Christ, ask the Spirit to guide you and hold you up. And take comfort in the words of the LORD.  His promises to protect you from those who mean you harm or spill vitriolic sewage your way cannot penetrate their caustic words into your soul.

Isaiah 41:10 -“Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”

These words are not just mere words as mortals usually espouse. No, in fact this is directly from His mouth to His children. He promises to uphold us in all matters pertaining to our protection and our lives.

Psalm 27:1 -“The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid?”

The light of my salvation— whom shall I fear? No one! Is the answer each and every time. I will state that emphatically and without recourse.  Words are just that- words. When words from mortals spew harsh and cruel, remember they’re not from our Father above, and it shouldn’t penetrate our souls. In fact, those who use “verbal attacks” usually aren’t standing in the light. It can come from the “opposite” side of Christ. So, take that into consideration as well.

Psalm 138:7 -“Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You will revive me; You will stretch out Your hand Against the wrath of my enemies, And Your right hand will save me.”

This verse in particular helped me this very morning as I am facing a situation that came out of left field. I have no clue about where or why this circumstance surfaced in the first place. However, I run to the Bible and the LORD for His protection and His light to overcome the darkness and to replenish my soul with His love. That’s all I need.

Ephesians 6:11-12 -“Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”

I never leave home with my armor of protection. I never get nervous about anything because I am fully clothed in His Gospel. It requires a great deal of faith, dedication and trust in the LORD at all times in order to “glide” over the bumpy, rocky road of trials and tribulations. Which includes but not limited to harsh words, harsh actions, and the evil in the world overall.

In times of trouble, we can find refuge in God’s protection. This is what we should think of when we hear harsh words.  These verses remind us of His provision and care for us:

  • Psalm 57:1 “Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me! For my soul trusts in You; And in the shadow of Your wings I will make my refuge, Until these calamities have passed by.”
  • Psalm 61:2 “From the end of the earth I will cry to You, When my heart is overwhelmed; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.”
  • Psalm 62:8 “Trust in Him at all times, you people; Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us. Selah”Psalm 71:3 “Be my strong refuge, To which I may resort continually; You have given the commandment to save me, For You are my rock and my fortress.”
  • Nahum 1:7 “The Lord is good, A stronghold in the day of trouble; And He knows those who trust in Him.”

Has someone or something thrown you a curve today in terms of harshness or seemingly out of nowhere? Is there something troubling you right this moment that has you upset, nervous, angry or sad? Take comfort in His promises and His Word, and in His love, it will reinforce your heart, mind body and soul.

“Father, thank You for Your Words and promises, I answer to You alone, and find refuge in Your love and light, may I always refer to Your Word in all things, and recognize that You are there holding me up through all things, and all circumstances, you are guiding me fully at all times, and my provisions and soul are fulfilled by Your love, Word and promises, in Christ’ name, Amen.”

DEAR GOD: I AM INFUSED BY YOUR SPIRIT~

The Bible offers many lessons on how to make a difference in life. We are called to resist conformity to worldly patterns and renew our minds according to God’s Word. By seeking His guidance and transforming our way of thinking, we can then completely discern God’s good, acceptable, and perfect will for each of us.

Standing with and by God’s Word and will for our lives enables us to make choices and take actions that align with His purpose, and inherently will make a positive impact on others, as well as our lives. But only when it is according to HIS will, not ours.

You see when we rely on God and trust Him fully in all we do and acknowledge Him— He will direct our paths. And when we realize we need Him and aren’t using our “own wisdom” or devices, and love Him fully and keep from evil, it will be health for us inside and out (Proverbs 3:5-8).

The Bible teaches us that to make a difference, we should read the Bible, connect with God, serve others selflessly, and renew our minds according to God’s Word. Each session we spend with God on an intimate basis, that is getting to know Him, understand His word and how to apply it to our lives, we gain introspection into how we should live. We gain access into living life successfully while adhering to His commandments.

The Bible is a perfect testimony of who God is and what He’s like. After all, it’s inspired by God and it’s profitable for teaching, admonishing, rebuking, training us to be disciplined and walk in righteousness.

Plus, through His Word, God shows us and gives us everything in His book required of us to lead a life of goodness and demonstrate love towards each other.

Each of us are unique, yet all have the impact to make a difference in the world. The Holy Spirit will guide us and teach us as we go along in this world. The Spirit isn’t stagnant.  Instead, the Spirit will continuously move and flow effortlessly when we are aware, open and engaged with the Word on a daily basis. He is given to us as a “gift” when we accept the LORD readily. We are given that wonderful and glorious gift from the Father, and He is infused within us always.

 Luke 24:49 (NLT) – “And now I will send the Holy Spirit, just as my Father promised. But stay here in the city until the Holy Spirit comes and fills you with power from heaven.”

“Father, may I always be connected to You on every level in my life, may I consult with You before I go about my tasks in early morning, may I seek Your face in all I do, and may I please You in all of my ways, all the days of my life, in Jesus’ name, Amen.”

 

 

DEAR GOD: Shine Your Light~

Isaiah 60:1 KJV- Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee.

 

LORD, shine Your light from high above in the world that seems to be under darkness as of late. Help those in anguish, and those in ill health, help those trapped in situations that seem hopeless, help those who are experiencing loss of a loved one, or those who are trapped in a bad marriage, or those who are tempted to ignore God’s Word and commandments, help those who haven’t yet come to You, or those who have turned their backs on You, help these individuals, help those who are addicted by something in their lives that are keeping them from experiencing life through You and Your Word, help those who go against Your Word, and help the World that is in such disarray my LORD, only YOU can change things with a wave of Your hand, or by Your Word, all those reading this right now, may their prayers be heard, and if it is Your will, may it be done, in Jesus’ precious name, Amen.”

I felt it in my heart, God laid it upon me to write that prayer, someone out there is in need of prayers this very moment, so turn to the One who can help You, never give up, or lose faith, cause God’s timing and Will is perfect. Hang in there, hold on, and know that He hears You, and is there with You.

God is like oxygen. You can’t see it, but we NEED IT TO BREATHE. So, breathe!  Take in the LORD, follow Him and His Word, and know that He will never leave or forsake You.

Accept Him as LORD and Savior. Jesus said, “no one goes to the Father, but through Me”(John 14:6) — He also says, “Whatever you ask in my name to the Father, it shall be done” (John 14:13) Those two verses meditate upon them, realize the depth of what that means, and accept Him as LORD.

  • Jesus is LORD, and LORD above all.
  • Praise His name, Amen!

“Father, may I do all I can to please You, may I always walk in obedience to You, may I turn from all temptations, and may I share You Word and be Your servant all the days of my life, and I pray for all those reading this message, I pray for all issues to be resolved in their lives, and that they are obedient to You and Your Son, in Jesus’ name, Amen.”

DEAR GOD: Thank You For Your Comfort & Word~

Isaiah 40:1 (ESV)
“Comfort, comfort my people, says your God.”

One thing we all need at times is comfort. We all need comfort at one time or another. We can expect comfort from the LORD in His Word and in His promises. That is a considerable amount of comfort to all those who follow Him.

We can have intense sadness at any given point in our lives, in many ways. Death, financial ruins, sickness, loss of family, friends due to misunderstandings, etc.  Then there is the elderly that seems to be a population that gets lost in the crevices of life. As those who are aging, they sense the loss of “youth” as it slips by in a subtle manner, yet reality adds up and we start to realize our limitations. We have to recognize that certain aspects of our functioning start waning.

But we adapt to our circumstances and go according to what we can accept for what our body and condition allows us at each passing point in time. We need to realize that time cannot work in “reverse” nor can the “aging process.” Those who are aging are aging no doubt about it. But we of faith have something “new” each day…the promises and His Word that brings life to our spirit and soul. The spirit remains young, and it is that spirit we need to hold onto as we navigate the world from whatever our age is.

All human life is temporary. All flesh is grass and flowers of the field. The grass will wither and the flower fades, but the Word of God stands forever (Isaiah 40:8). 

Again, successfully aging is fully accepting limitations, not giving up on life and doing what we can to keep our spiritual connection with the LORD and His Word. Following Him in obedience and compliance. And honoring Him all the days of our lives.

God comforts us through the good news of His Gospel and His saving Grace of our LORD Jesus Christ.  And that is this is the best kind of comfort that we could every received. His grace and His love are boundless and a veritable treasure that goes beyond anything we sustain or obtain here on earth. Amen!

Psalms 119:76: (KJV)
“Let, I pray thee, thy merciful kindness be for my comfort, according to thy word unto thy servant.”

“LORD, may I always find comfort in Your Word, in Your love and in Your grace that sustain and maintains me all the days of my life, and beyond, in Jesus’ name, Amen.”

 

DEAR GOD: THANK YOU FOR PSALM 91 & MORE~

Open Heaven for Today 22 December 2019 – Divine Protection

I’d just like to put the entire Psalm 91 on the site today as a reminder for all of us in just how spectacularly special and amazing our LORD is! It is the quintessential character of who He is, with His provisions, actions, and promises. It reinforces His Omnipotence and His unsurpassable love for all of His children. We are His children and we’ve been redeemed by His blood and His love, and it is not retractable but reinforced by who He is and what He does each day of our life here on earth. And it will continue to be throughout eternity.

So here is Psalm 91 in its entirety, and I’ve chosen King James Version, should any of you prefer another version, please go to it.  I only suggest as you read this beautiful comforting Psalm, you take in the enormous scope of what it truly represents. And know and trust and believe in His Word as you proclaim His great glory and magnificence.

6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.

7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.

8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.

9 Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;

10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.

12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.

13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.

14 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.

15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.

16 With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.
